Korean war epic “71-Into the Fire” successfully bowed into the top spot on the local box office over the weekend, pushing back two-week winner “A Story of Bangja” down the chart.

Figures by the Korean Box Office System (KOBIS) released on Monday revealed that the newly released picture, which opened in theaters on June 16, attracted 809,229 moviegoers during the weekend of June 18 to 20.

The film has accumulated over 1.1 million admissions to date, making it the fastest movie this year to breach the one million mark.

“Fire”, starring Hallyu star Kywon Sang-woo, Cha Seung-wonKim Seung-woo and T.O.P (Choi Seung-hyeon) from idol group Big Bang, is about the true story of 71 student soldiers who fought during the Korean War. The film commemorates the 60th anniversary of the war this month. (from HanCinema)
